Therapy for Adults

Starting therapy can be a scary decision, especially if you have never done it before, and don’t know what to expect. Beginning therapy is a big step toward becoming the healthiest version of yourself and living the best life possible—no matter what challenges you may be facing. During therapy we focus on exploring your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, somatic responses (body sensations) in relation to the problem you are experiencing. We work to develop more insight in to who you are as a person, and how you can feel more safe, stable, and connected. We typically meet weekly for between 50-90 minutes depending on the treatment modality. There is no judgement, just compassion. When we first begin we will meet for an intake assessment. This is where I gather information about who you, your history, and background, what brings you into therapy, and what you would like to achieve. Once the intake is complete we can decide together how to best move forward to reach your goals. This is a collaborative process that is led by you.

What can you help me with?

Folks come to me for a variety of reasons. If you are struggling with PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, difficulty managing your emotions, or have experienced trauma, stress, and adversity I can help you. I work from a trauma and social justice informed lens, and this can be applied to many of the concerns you may be facing. If you are unsure I offer a free 15 minute consultation to help you decide if we are a good fit for each other. You can also read more about my approach here.

Will I have to talk About my Trauma?

Not if you don’t want to, and not until you’re ready. Trauma therapy isn’t so much about talking about your trauma over and over as it is about understanding how trauma has impacted you, and how we can resolve any difficulties that stem from these experiences. Some folks feel relief from talking about their experiences, and others don’t. It is entirely up to you.

Will I be in therapy for a long time?

No. My goal isn’t to keep you in therapy for a long time. My goal is to help you relieve your distress, develop your skills, and increase your insight so that you don’t need me anymore. Depending on what brings you in, therapy could last for a few a months, and for some it is longer. We will often taper down from meeting weekly as you start to improve, and move closer to completion. Once we end our time together I will be available to you for check-ins, and refresher sessions as needed. Some enjoy having the added support of having a therapist for a long time, while others like to end once they reach a specific goal. Healing is a journey, not a destination.

I look forward to supporting you in your healing, and process of self discovery and improvement.
